Shay Barry has made a fine start to his training career and today benefited from his 'former life' as a jockey when winning the Colossus Football Pools Now Available At thetote.com Maiden Hurdle with Thats Mypresenting
Ridden by Brian O'Connell, the eight year old gelding battled well from two out to reel in Double Windsor from the last, for a two and a quarter lengths win.
Barry later commented “he probably would have won his point-to-point at Curraghmore only he tipped up at the second last and he loves that good ground.
“That was his first run on the track and he's an eight-year-old but it is grand that he got the job done. He stays well, it probably wasn't the strongest of races but he'll improve away. He'll keep going for the summer and he'll stay over hurdles."
He added "I used to ride for Joe (Lee, owner) and when Hannah handed in her licence to train, they asked me would I take a few horses. We've been lucky now as I've also had two point-to-point winners for them."
