On his first start for Bowes Lodge Stables and Willie Mullins We’llhavewan (6/5 favourite) brought up his hat-trick in the Racing Again August 5th Beginners Chase at Tipperary.
Bred and formerly owned and trained by the successful jockey Paul Townend’s father Tim, We’llhavewan pulled victory from the jaws of defeat with a narrow close home verdict from Wild Caprice
In truth the John Ryan-trained runner-up, looked like she’d done enough by jumping the last better, but she eventually had to yield by a head to a determined We’llhavewan. Wild Caprice had earlier made mistakes and ended up with a slipped saddle.
Townend revealed in the aftermath: “I thought it was going to come down to the jump at the last and he let me down the one time I needed him.
“He dug in for me after the last but he was helped by the saddle slipping on the second.
“It’s a long time since he ran in a point-to-point and he jumped well on the whole. Hopefully he’ll be a fun horse.”
Rachael Blackmore, rider of Frontier General trained by Henry de Bromhead, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that her mount never travelled throughout this race.
