Tarfasha and Pat Smullen come home good winners in the feature at Naas© Photo Healy Racing
We had flip-flopping favourites for the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Blue Wind Stakes at Naas. However those that stuck with the team in form were rewarded again when the Dermot Weld-trained Tarfasha ran out an impressive winner under Pat Smullen.
In a race that commemorates a Weld-trained star of the past, Tarfasha travelled well to get there two furlongs out.
From there she left the favourite, Dazzling and the rest in her wake, eventually crossing the line three and a quarter lengths in front of We'll Go Walking with the 'jolly' three lengths back in third.
Weld stated: "I thought she did it very nicely for a filly having her first run back.
"It was a very true run race and Pat said she gave a little blow half a furlong down but she got her second wind and ran on nicely.
"I'll have a word with Sheikh Hamdan (winning owner), it's his decision but I would be encouraging him to have a crack at the Epsom Oaks. I appreciate he has the favourite for the race (Taghrooda) already.
"She handled that ground but she'll really love fast ground. She's a good filly and there's lots to look forward too.
"She stays well and she'll love to go a mile and a half." (GC & EM)
