TIME SHOWS OAKS POTENTIAL

Time Away earned a 33-1 quote from Victor Chandler for the Oaks following her smooth success at Sandown today.

John Dunlop`s two-year-old, runner-up to the subsequent May Hill Stakes winner Karasta on her debut at Newmarket last month, justified odds of 10-11 in the EBF Maiden Fillies` Stakes.

Pat Eddery took the daughter of Darshaan past pace-setting Seyooll entering the final quarter-mile and merely pushed her out to score by two and a half lengths from the newcomer Gay Heroine.

Time Away holds an entry in the Meon Valley Stud Fillies` Mile at Ascot next weekend but connections feel that race, and with it a potential rematch with Karasta, may come too soon.

'It`s only 10 more days away and that`s plenty soon enough,' said Dunlop`s secretary, Marcus Hosgood. 'She`s won it in good style but you don`t want to be winding up two-year-old fillies at this stage.

'I think she`s going to be a nice middle-distance filly for next year. She`s got the pedigree and style of racing for it.'

Eddery was suitably impressed with Time Away and observed: 'she`s very nice.'

Richard Hughes escaped with a caution after dropping his hands in the final furlong on the Queen`s Evergreen who finished unplaced in the showcase handicap, the Tote `totalbet.com` fillies` stakes.

Hughes had held Evergreen up in the rear and his mount was checked three times in the space of 250 yards inside the final quarter mile. Hughes accepted his situation with half a furlong to run and his mount finished ninth, beaten just over five lengths by the winner, Colne Valley Amy.

Stewards` secretary Paul Barton, explaining why Hughes was cautioned, said: 'The stewards accepted he had a bad run through the race but in the last half furlong he actually lost two places. That`s why he was cautioned. Jockeys are expected to ride out to obtain the best possible placing.'

Gavin Faulkner received a one-day ban (September 22) for using his whip above shoulder height on That Man Again, the short-head winner of the Willow Claiming Stakes.

Nerys Dutfield received a good omen ahead of an important two days when her Fiamma Royale broke her duck at the ninth attempt in the Chestnut Maiden Auction Stakes.

Dutfield runs Secret Index in the Criterium de Vitesse at Chantilly on Friday, while Misty Eyed, a luckless second to Superstar Leo in the Flying Childers at Doncaster last week, tackles the Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.

Misty Eyed`s defeat on Town Moor still rankles with the trainer who said: 'I think she was robbed. I don`t want to take anything away from Superstar Leo but I would have preferred to have been second in a straight head to head, but not after having had all that traffic trouble.'

Kevin Darley maintained his 17-winner advantage at the top of the jockeys` table when cancelling out Eddery`s success with his victory on Attache, the 2-1 favourite, for the EBF Novice Stakes.
