TATE FACES LENGTHY BAN

Jockey Jason Tate goes before the disciplinary committee of the Jockey Club tomorrow morning after being referred to Portman Square by the Lingfield stewards for excessive use of the whip.

Tate, who incurred the wrath of the stewards for his ride aboard Failed To Hit at the Surrey track on December 22nd, had already been suspended for 15 days in the previous 12 months for whip offences and was automatically referred.

If found guilty of breaking the whip rules Tate could face a lengthy suspension under the totting-up procedure.

Two horses also face possible disqualification after giving positive samples.

The Peter Harris-trained El Curioso, winner of the EBF Queenpot Maiden Stakes at Salisbury on July 10 1999, and Jet Age, third for Ed Dunlop in the Farndon Maiden Stakes at Chester on June 23 last year, are the horses in question.
