The Karl Thornton trained Swedish import Sierra Law gained a first Irish win at Down Royal today, landing the Linden Foods Handicap Hurdle under jockey Barry John Foley.

The British bred four year old son of Lawman was purchased to race in Sweden by Hans Adielsson as a yearling and won a flat maiden at Jagersro in Sweden in June 2016. He eventually found his way back to England for the February 2017 Horses-In-Training Sale where he was picked up for 7,000gns by today’s owner Gary Ryan.

Today Sierra Law scored a three and a quarter lengths win over Boytonrath and after Co Dublin based Thornton stated “he’s been getting there; he’s only four and maybe still a bit weak and is still learning the game. He’s a typical flat horse as it takes a few runs over hurdles to get into the game.

"In Limerick he was unlucky, the ground probably went against him and Donagh Meyler (jockey then) said he got murdered turning in. He also said he’d win the next day, and he was right but unfortunately Donagh is away in Australia riding in the Jockeys’ Challenge.“
