Swan strikes on Fiddler for Walsh Harry Swan gave Fiddlerontheroof a fine front-running ride to claim the concluding bumper at Navan today. The Stowaway gelding had been placed in two bumpers before today but went to post a 16/1 shot for the finale. Swan, son of former champion jockey Charlie, had his mount to the fore throughout and led before the halfway point. The John Joe Walsh-trained gelding, carrying the colours of the winning jockey's grand-father Timmy Hyde, had plenty of challengers passing the two pole but responded well when asked for an effort. 8/11 shot The Big Getaway looked a serious danger inside the final furlong but couldn't find a way past Fiddlerontheroof who kept on strongly for a length-and-a-quarter success. It was a second winner for Swan in the saddle after his initial success at Worcester last September. Walsh said afterwards:- “He’s a nice horse for the future. I wanted to run at Limerick but the owner wanted to come up here. He was right but he probably would have won at Limerick anyway.” (Quotes by Alan Magee)
