Stormfly an appropriate winner at Navan With Pat Smullen sporting a black armband in respect to Mrs Weld who passed away yesterday, Stormfly carried him to a fitting success in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden at Navan. Continuing the excellent run of form of the Rosewell House inmates, the successful Dark Angel filly showed the benefit of a run at Cork only last Sunday. In a race where the market proved to be a pretty reliable guide Stormfly (11/4) accounted for Queen Anne (11/4) by a length and three parts with three parts of a length back to Icy Lady (7/4 favourite) in third place. It was 12/1 bar the three and they left Sauanna Belle and the rest seven lengths and upwards behind. Kris Weld explained: "It's appropriate that she's won as my grandmother always loved a grey horse. "She ran well at Cork last week. She did that well and the experience was obviously a huge help. "She came home well and she'll probably get further. "She's had two quick runs so we won't rush her back. She's a nice filly." Coincidentally enough the late Mrs Weld bred Liffey View and that one finished fifth here for Ado McGuinness. (GC & EM)
