Square comes good for Slatterys Senado Square justified favouritism with a smooth success in the Far Above Handicap at Naas for trainer Andy Slattery. The Mayson gelding was partnered by Andrew Slattery junior and travelling notably well throughout in the five furlong contest. He was asked to challenge passing the furlong pole and the 5/2 shot got on top inside the final 100 yards to post a two-length win over front-runner Disco Bear. The winner had been runner-up at Dundalk on his handicap debut last month. “We thought he was a good two-year-old but he ran terrible in three runs, running too free with the choke out,” said the winning trainer. “We gelded him and put him away and then gave him a run in Dundalk to try and settle him. We dropped him out to switch off and he ran well in Dundalk. “Hopefully now it’s onwards and upwards. He’s by Mayson out of a Dark Angel mare so the ground was never going to be an issue. “Hopefully the handicapper won’t be too hard on him and it’s great to get off the mark for the grass season.” (Quotes by Alan Magee)
