Jockey Martin Ferris, who 'rode out' his claim yesterday, partnered his fifth winner since Christmas when steering Springmount to make virtually all in game style, in the Horse & Jockey Handicap Chase at Thurles today.
Ferris, who was allowed to claim 3lbs today having been booked to ride the mare before racing on Sunday, pushed the daughter of Beneficial clear from the third last fence, and although briefly headed at the final fence, responded gamely to Ferris' urgings to win by a length and three parts from Barneys Honour
Afterwards winning trainer Sean Ahearne stated “Springmount is tough and will go for something similar again next.”
