Experience paid off for Smart Flies (5/1) as she got off the mark at the fifth time of asking in the seven-furlong maiden at Naas.
Only one other horse in the field had raced more than once - twice-raced Dottie Vallens
Smart Flies moved up to lead on the inside after a furlong and had the well-backed De Latour for company on her outer.
Thebeastfortheast attempted to challenge over two furlongs out but his effort petered out inside the final quarter of a mile.
Smart Flies kept finding for Kevin Manning along the rail but faced her toughest challenge from Chamrousse who picked up in the final 200 yards.
Samrt Flies was always holding Chamrousse (10/1), though, and was a neck in front at the line. Merricourt was two and three quarter lengths away in third at 16/1.
“She's hardy. I have nothing in mind and wouldn't be a huge hurry with her. We were just hunting the last day (in the Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes),” trainer Jim Bolger said.
