Henry de Bromhead’s Tag Man has top weight but is perfectly suited by this distance and good ground. A previous course chase winner, he was well held when conceding weight to smart Saint Sam at Cork in August but later that month defeated capable types when winning at Down Royal and a reproduction would give him every chance.
Described by his trainer Padraig Roche as a ‘little star’ who is ‘tough and honest’ he stays well over 3 miles and appreciates good ground. Looking to bounce back from a disappointing run at Listowel last time.
Willie Mullins’ capable mare won this race last year. Unusually, she won her initial two chase runs in Grade 2 races before finishing second in the 2023 mares' chase at Cheltenham and while a fraction below that level last term, nonetheless is smart on her day and will be ready.
A ready winner of a beginners’ chase at Galway in August, this handy mare, trained by Willie Mullins will appreciate the drying ground conditions. She stepped up in class last time out making no impression.
Fakir D'oudairies is among an impressive roll of honour in the Clonmel Oil Chase having won this race 3 years ago. Things didn't go his way in the Kerry National at Listowel last time, but his trainer Joseph O’Brien is remaining positive although the ground could be a concern. The weights are in his favour.
Saddled by Gordon Elliott the six-year-old grey takes on Fakir D’Oudaries in the Clonmel Oil Chase. He lost his way since he was sold in February this year but Elliott is confident he is in good form at home and he performs well following a break.
Willie Mullins depends on Saint Sam in the Clonmel Oil Chase, who is back over fences after winning over hurdles at Auteuil last time out. His front-running tactics could run his rivals off their feet. He is in rude health with recent victories over hurdles at Cork and Auteuil and the drying ground is not an issue.
