Sir Jack Yeats rallied to good effect for Davy Russell to land the extended two mile six handicap chase in Killarney.
The winner looked to be at the mercy of Na Trachtalai Abu who was given a patient ride by Andrew Lynch before hitting the front on the run-in.
However, Sir Jack Yeats fought back tenaciously to get up by a neck and justify 2/1 favouritism.
Runner-up Na Trachtalai Abu was a 4/1 shot. Manuka came in third at 12/1 a further three and three quarter lengths away.
Trainer Ellmarie Holden said: "He gave him a great ride and it was great for his first run in a handicap chase.
"I genuinely thought he was beaten - even after the line I was walking down to the second so it's great!
"I'll pick out a race at Galway next."
