Jockey Joey Sheridan completed a double at the Curragh today as he steered the Ross O’Sullivan trained Longbourn to a second career win in the TRI Equestrian Handicap.
Sheridan employed waiting tactics on earlier winner Ice Cold In Alex but changed to a front-running ride on Longbourn who eventually maintained the gallop for a 1.75L win over Solene Lilyette
O’Sullivan later stated “he’s such a consistent type, definitely wants good ground and that’s his third run this month so he’s well able to take his racing. He breaks very well, suited himself in front and got into a lovely rhythm. The ground was perfect and it’s great to have a winner like that on Derby weekend.
“He possibly could jump a hurdle down the way and is a fine big horse.
“Amanda Torrens (owner) hasn’t been racing in a year and a half so it’s great that she is here today. She was a bit unlucky with a couple of jumpers so was keen to get into the Flat racing.
“He’s a fun horse. Joey has ridden him the last few times claiming the 5lb and it all fell into place today.
“That’s my only runner of the weekend so I can sit back now and relax.”
