Shanno’s 1st NH win a knockout for punters Punters were on their knees at Clonmel following a sequence of twenty, sixteen and twenty five to one winners to finish off the seven race card. Pat Shanahan's first National Hunt winner arrived in the shape of 25/1 chance Posiden Sea (Jane Mangan up, of course her father Jimmy and brother Paddy combined for a winner earlier with Carries Darling) in the concluding Clonmel Oil Chase Day 15th November Flat Race prompting the Kilkenny-based handler to say: "I always thought he was a very nice horse but I was very disappointed with his first run and he received a bad ride at Killarney. I don't like to criticise jockeys as I was a rider myself. "He's a fine good looking horse and he'll be better on better ground. Dermot Weld had him as a three-year-old and loved him." The Thistle Bloodstock Limited-owned Sagamix gelding was returning to action today having last run in May. Jane Mangan had no worries regarding his fitness though, never seeing another rival and well clear for much, staying on well from over a furlong out on the way to beating Bell Weir by seven and a half lengths. Bose Ikard was a disappointment for those that made him the 4/7 favourite, managing only third whilst the well-backed Jubilee Year (7s into 9/2) was fourth. (TW & EM)
