The Oliver Brady trained Imperial Shabra got Cheltenham week off to the best possible start for the Irish as he took the second race at Stratford today, the Novices' Handicap Chase under Ger Fox.

On what was his twenty-second start over fences the 8yo gelding raced prominently throughout, took up the lead approaching the last and was driven out from there going on to score by a length and a half at the line.

The son of Imperial Ballet was the second favourite at 3/1 having ran a cracker on his last start at Leopardstown finishing just under eight lengths behind Slieveardagh and Donnas Palm.

Brady now has a chance of completing a double on the card as his Duroob goes in the 3:40 a Handicap Chase over 2m 7f.
