The Powerstown Demesne (QR) Handicap Hurdle produced a good finish and a very game winner in Live Every Day (16/1) who fended off several challengers in the home straight to win under Simon Cavanagh. Resurrected Duke (7/2) and No Grey Area’s (5/1) were the placed horse with just a neck and a short head between the first three home.
There was drama at halfway when the front-running Some Can Sing ran out at the bend past the stands and threw rider Rob James against a nearby vehicle, but luckily the rider was none the worse.
The winning 7-year-old, by Ask, had previously won at Listowel last year and was runner-up at that track last month as well.
The successful rider, claiming 7lbs, is enjoying a good run of success having won a bumper at Wexford on Bank Holiday Monday earlier this week.
Brendan Walsh, assistant to his father and winning trainer John Joe Walsh, said: "The last day we took the cheek-pieces off at Galway and he ran a bit free and the ground was a bit too good too and he likes a bit of juice.
"He is a fine big horse and we'll try and get another hurdle win out of him before going chasing.
"Simon (Cavanagh) gave him a good intelligent ride and waited. He was with us for a year when he finished school years ago and is a great lad to work and ride.
"That's his first hurdle winner and his father Richard owns and bred the horse."
