Agony for favourite backers in the Tote-sponsored two-mile handicap, the 'getting out' stakes on Plate day, as Unanswered got going just a fraction too late to catch 33/1 winner Scenic Look
Seamie Heffernan excelled on the winner, kicking her into the lead over two furlongs out and getting first run on the 13/8 market leader who, as is his wont, took a bit of time to gather full stride. A relatively slowly-run contest wouldn't have played to the strengths of the runner-up either, as he just got a bit outpaced when the tempo rose. Unanswered ate up the ground on the final climb to the line but Heffernan's move proved decisive as his mount held on by a neck. Dark Voyager and Whatcouldhavebeen completed the frame.
Scenic Look, previously runner-up twice over hurdles and once on the Flat, was fourth in a recent Dundalk handicap that has worked out very well at Galway this week with two winners and a close third coming out of that race.
Winning trainer Adrian Murray, based in Rathowen Co Westmeath, said: "She has been banging on the door and today was the day. She is a very tough mare, has had a lot of racing and keeps pulling out more every time she runs.
"She has an entry here on Saturday for a maiden hurdle so if she pulls out alright in the morning she might come back.
"She is owned by her breeder Thomas Keane, who is local to me."
