Seventeen went to post for the Munster Waste Management Handicap Hurdle over two miles with the Eoin Doyle trained 20/1 shot Satu coming out on top under Mikey Butler.
This 8yo son of Marju was recording his sixth career victory today and his fourth for Eoin Doyle. He previously won two on the level earlier in his career when trained by David Myerscough.
Having won a Novice Chase at Killarney in August of 2010 he then finished fifth in another Novice Chase at Listowel in September of the same year.
After that run he was off the track for nearly a year and a half and only made his racecourse reappearance at Thurles in a handicap hurdle in late February.
He since ran in a handicap on the level at Dundalk last month before today's victory.
The 4/1 favourite Pink Coat (backed from 8/1 this morning and 11/2 on course) attempted to make all under John Cullen for trainer Steven Ryder but he could find no more and was headed at the second last eventually finishing seventh.
The winner who raced in mid-division made good headway into fifth approaching the straight and then progressed to lead at the second last. From there he soon asserted and kept on well on the run-in to score by three lengths. Isobella Blue for Tom Foley with Tim Carroll aboard finished back in second at 12/1, Enter the Indian under Nicky O’Shea was a further two and a half lengths back in third at 20/1 while Lilywhitedancer completed the placing's at further two and a half lengths back in fourth at 12/1 under Shane Jackson.
Winning trainer Eoin Doyle said afterwards: "He did it well and he always was a good horse.
"He is just back from injury as he had leg trouble. He likes level tracks and he is speedy on them.
"He might go to Punchestown now but we will see what the handicapper does now. He might go back over fences as well. He loves good ground." (DM & TW)
