SPARK HEADS 118 CUP CONFIRMATIONS

Indian Spark heads the 118 horses declared at today`s five-day stage for Saturday`s Ladbroke Ayr Gold Cup.

A maximum field of 29 will go to post for the #100,000 handicap, with the horses eliminated at Thursday`s final declaration stage eligible for the Ladbroke Ayr Silver Cup also on Saturday`s card.

All the leading fancies stand their ground with Ladbrokes` 7-1 joint-favourites Tayseer and Pepperdine among six David Nicholls hopefuls in the top 29.

Compton Banker`s 7lb penalty for winning last week`s Portland Handicap at Doncaster pushes him into the Gold Cup field, although trainer Gerard Butler has warned the three-year-old is not a certain runner at Ayr.

Night Flight and Shatin Venture`s penalties for recent successes also guarantee them a run in the main event.

Most prominent among the withdrawals are the William Haggas-trained Capricho, who had been a 20-1 chance with the sponsors, Cubism, Deep Space and original top-weight Lincoln Dancer.
