Trevor Ryan had a day to remember at Fairyhouse this afternoon when the Willie Austin-trained The Chapel Field gave him a first career double in the concluding race.
The 7lb claimer had earlier scored on Witness Of Fashion in the handicap chase and was again seen to good effect as he completed a 131/1 brace in the two-and-a-half mile handicap hurdle.
Ryan tracked the leaders on the Beneficial gelding before moving up to dispute with Important Message turning for home.
The 10/1 shot (20/1 this morning) kicked on from that rival after the second last and galloped on strongly to record a three-and-three-quarter length win. Ahgetawayoutadat stayed on to claim the runner-up spot close home.
The Chapel Field was making his seasonal debut and stepping up considerably on previous showings in handicap company.
Ryan said:- “That’s my first double and my first day back riding after getting a few falls at Thurles. I was stood down for 12 days.
“I only got clearance last night so I have to say thanks to Jennifer Pugh and Dr McGoldrick for advising me and getting me back. I was dying to get back for these and they did everything to help me to get here.
“I’m delighted to get a winner for the Austins. When I came back from England a few years ago nobody would give me a ride but they gave me rides and I’m delighted to finally get a winner for them. The man that owns him, William Burn, is a gentleman too.
“I’m based in Tipperary and I’m with Willie for two days a week and also with Denis Hogan, Stephen Ryan and all the other local lads that want me.
“Michael Hourigan has been very good to me this year as well and has given me two winners, and I’m delighted that things are now clicking into place.”
