Davy Russell extended his clear lead at the head of the jump jockeys’ championship as he brought up a near 23/1 treble at Thurles this afternoon on Goodthynemilan in the Killinan Handicap Hurdle.
The Youghal rider was seen at his best here as the Gordon Elliott-trained mare and Queen Khaleesi dominated from two out in this 2m7f event.
The 5/2 favourite dug deep for Russell at the business end, and got on top on the run-in to score by three quarters of a length. Spancil Hill came home really well to finish just a length and a half back in third.
Russell, who is now 29 clear of the sidelined Paul Townend (94-65) in the title race, was on the mark earlier in the day aboard Or Jaune De Somoza (5/4) and Last Man Standing (2/1).
He is bidding to be champion jockey for a third time having previously landed the title in 2011/12 and again the following season (2012/13).
