The end of May and into June has been a profitable time for Davy Russell's many followers.
The former champion jockey has ridden six winners in that period at odds ranging from 4-1 up to 14-1 and Clonmel's meeting this evening could see the hot streak continue.
Russell has four mounts at Powerstown Park and he will actually be the first professional jockey aboard Cloneen Choice when he goes in the Clonmel Show Sunday 2nd July Handicap Chase.
That situation arises because this Milan gelding now has his first start outside of point-to-point and hunter chase company.
Owned and bred by Donal Browne, and trained by his son Don in Russell's home county of Cork, Cloneen Choice won three times between the flags last year.
He has a good attitude and arrives with a decent Killarney third placing from 25 days back under his belt.
In one of the other chases on the programme, the BBQ Evening At Clonmel Races Beginners event, Russell maintains one of his most lucrative connections when he rides Sea Light for Charles Byrnes.
A useful handicap hurdler when he numbered a course win among his five successes, Sea Light tries the larger obstacles for the second time now.
His effort at Killarney in mid-May was his first outing since December. He can be expected to come forward from that significantly now upped in trip but, as ever, the market should be revealing.
Russell's other engagements are on Dawn In The Park in the opener for Joseph O'Brien, and on Just Janice for John Kiely in the Orchard Thieves Handicap Hurdle. This pair are not without hope, either.
Meanwhile, the biggest prize of the evening is on offer for the John Kennedy Motors (Toyota) Clonmel Beginners Chase, in which Eight Till Late could be rewarded for his consistency.
