Championship leader Davy Russell completed a quick double when getting 10/1 chance Jack Absolute up in virtually the final stride following a thrilling finish to the McCarthy Insurance Group Handicap Chase.
There were four horses in with every chance on the run-in and it was the grey Jack Abolute, who gained all five of his previous victories at Limerick, who arrived latest of all with his challenge on the far side to snatch the spoils from Tinakellylad (16/1) by a head.
The 5/2 favourite Last Time D'Albain was just half a length away in third, while Gentle Alice led over the last but could only manage fourth.
The win leaves Russell still 21 ahead (78-57) of Ruby Walsh, who also recorded a double on the card at Cork, in the jump jockeys title race.
Winning trainer John Joe Walsh said, “Davy gave him some ride, there's no two ways about it! I couldn't fancy him coming here today as he'd only won in Limerick before.”
