Rumbles Of Thunder brings up Keane treble in McCalmont Stakes Rumbles of Thunder easily landed the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Victor McCalmont Memorial Stakes(Listed Race)(Fillies & Mares) at Gowran Park. The Paddy Twomey trained winner was bringing up a quick treble for jockey Colin Keane, who also won the other listed race on the card, as well as the opening maiden. Although perhaps the perceived second string of her trainer, Rumbles of Thunder was always travelling easily in behind the leaders and it was always just a question of the gaps appearing. With no clear passage, Keane elected to bide his time and switch to the stands rail, a tactic that reaped rich rewards. Paddy Twomey said:- “She's a nice filly. She came from France in December and I'd say she was only ready to run in the Noblesse. “She was a little bit fresh as we were just trying to strengthen her and get her there. “I was hoping she'd do something like that today. That seemed to go well over that trip. “Colin said she'd be suited by a better race. We'll find a Group 3 for her now and see if we can keep progressing. “She's very uncomplicated, easy to train and has a lovely attitude.” On beaten favourite Sultanov Swing he added:- “It was just her second run and it was a big ask to run in a Listed race, that's why I ran the two of them. The jockey was adamant which one he was going to go for. She'll have another day.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson.
