Trainer Donal Kinsella gained compensation when his charge Royal Astronomer landed the Cabinteely Handicap in the hands of Padraig Beggy.
Beggy who settled his mount in rear came with a run on the outer two furlongs out.
The Soviet Star gelding responded well to pressure to get up and lead close home and score by three parts of a length.
Winning trainer Kinsella said afterwards: “He won his maiden here over two years ago but he has not been very healthy, he has had muscle problems in his back but I think we have it sorted.”
“He will probably go to the Curragh for a mile handicap next weekend and then maybe on to Galway.”
