Tom Hogan introduced a promising newcomer in the bumper as Roger Beantown supported at 14/1 this morning and returned an 8/1 chance, soundly defeated the odds-on Popcorn
James “Corky” Carroll got Popcorm off the bridle when kicking on with his mount early in the straight and, despite wandering about a bit in the final furlong, stuck at it well to beat the 8/13 favourite by three lengths.
The Indian Danehill gelding is out of Best Wait, who was formerly trained by Hogan and won five times including a Flat maiden at this track.
“He's a lovely prospect and a big baby. He was fit enough to run last year but kept growing, so we decided to leave him off. He ran very green, and will probably go now for a Graded bumper at Navan next month where the big, galloping track will suit him,” said Hogan.
