Lake George held Daring Man at bay in the closing stages to give Dylan Robinson his first taste of success in the Free To Speak Apprentice Handicap at the Curragh.

James Barrett 's charge raced prominently and hit the front over a furlong out in the seven-furlong contest.

He was soon tackled by Daring Man and the pair battled it out inside the final furlong, with Lake George finding plenty to record a neck success.

Robinson, 17 and apprenticed to Jim Bolger, was having his tenth ride.

The 16/1 winner was recording his third success on the track but had been struggling on soft conditions this summer.

"The ground really is the key to him. We've been waiting on good ground all year," said Barrett.

"There's a race for him here at the end of the month and he'll come back for that as he likes it around here.

"I'd like to thank Jim Bolger for the use of his apprentice. Dylan gave him a great ride."

Barrett also revealed that he has a mixed team of 14 horses in training at his base in Holycross near Thurles.
