Starting off over flights, Ring Of Kerry bounced back from a disappointing effort at Listowel as he claimed the Racing TV Free Trial For A Month Maiden Hurdle.

The winner of a point-to-point on debut at Portrush in March and subsequently sold for 120,000 pounds, he finished ninth on his first racecourse outing at Galway in July before failing to fire at Listowel.

Sent off the 6/4 favourite this afternoon (well-supported from 9/4), the Affinisea five-year-old raced in mid-division under Danny Gilligan, taking closer order to track the leaders from four out.

Leading narrowly from the penultimate flight, he was pushed out on the run-in and extended his advantage close home, with a length-and-a-quarter the margin of victory.

The Seamus Neville-trained King's Son (10/3) filled the runner-up spot, while Another Belter (25/1) was four-and-a-half lengths back in third.

"He ran well in Galway but we still thought he'd run better," winning trainer Cian Collins reflected.

"Listowel just didn't go to plan at all. He was way too keen and Patrick (Mullins) just looked after him that day.

"He done it well today, he is a chaser in the making really. He is a big horse and is about 17 hands. He is one for the future and we won't over race him this season. We'll look after him and strengthen him up again.

"Patrick recommended the tongue strap and that was the reason behind it. It did no harm to him anyway.

"He'll go for a winners race now somewhere, he could go to England for one. I had a horse that won a race in Musselburgh last year and I might look at that race again.

"My uncle Noel bred him and we sold him at the Aintree Sale to new owners (the Matou Pan Partnership) who Denis O'Regan knows. It's nice to get them into the yard.

"It was a great ride by Danny. He was keen for his last couple of races but he settled him well today and he done it nicely."
