Ricky Doyle registers a 1st double Ricky Doyle won successive races at Wexford when Come Home Quick sprung a 16/1 surprise in the Wexford Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Maiden Hurdle. Mark Fahey's first-time hooded daughter of Whitmore's Conn didn't make things easy for Doyle in the preliminaries but she lived up to her name from the back of the last. Favourite Ceatharlach looked a winner from before the straight. He didn't really go forward or jump from the front though. At the end just over a length and a half split the first five home. The margins at the finish were a nose between Come Home Quick and the fast finishing Cousin Pascal, with a short head to Ceatharlach in third. It was then half a length and a length to fourth and fifth home, Nomanbehind and Seskin Flyer. This was a first double for twenty-two-year-old Doyle who said: "She was a bit of handful beforehand. She gave me a whack in the head at the start and left me counting the stars!"   For his part Mark Fahey said: "She is a bit of a handful, a bit of a madam. It was her first time today wearing a hood. "She had a couple of good runs early on in maiden hurdles and lost her way a bit then. "It wasn't a great race today and I'm delighted to get it. "She would stay further. She grinds it out on that soft ground. "We will keep her going over the winter now and see how she gets on. "Hopefully she can pick up something else." The Stewards interviewed A. Ring, rider of Seskin Flyer, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards took no further action. Mr. P. Denis Hickey, Acting Steward, did not attend this hearing. (DM & EM)
