Reason scoops another big Irish prize English raider Line Of Reason bounced back to form as he landed the Listed Midsummer Sprint Stakes under Paul Mulrennan for Paul Midgley and owners Taylor's Bloodstock Ltd. The eight-year-old son of Kheleyf won three in-a-row last summer including the valuable Paddy Power Scurry Handicap at the Curragh on Derby day. Having finished down the field on his latest efforts at York he was available at 7/1 last night opening on-course at 9/2 before going off a 4/1 chance. Settled in rear he took closer order on the outside from two furlongs out. He was ridden in second a furlong from home and hit the front inside the final 150 yards, going on to score by two and a quarter lengths. Ardhoomey, who won his maiden last time out, ran a cracker to finish second under Colin Keane for Ger Lyons at 10/1. Midgley also had favourite Monsieur Joe (15/8) in the line-up and he finished fourth under Joseph O'Brien. The winning trainer said afterwards: "He's a good horse and is in the Wokingham. "We'll see how he is when he gets off the lorry, and if he's bucking and kicking we'll confirm him. If not we'll sit tight for a week or so and he could go for the Chipchase at Newcastle. "With a bit of luck, I think he can win a Group 3. He loves fast ground. "Monsieur Joe ran excellent on the ground. He just didn't let himself down in the last furlong. "He's in the Rockingham, and there is also the Saphire and a Listed race in York." Mulrennan, who was having his first ride at Cork, added: "He done it well, it was never in danger really and I was just trying not to get there too soon. He is a horse with plenty of ability and he won with a little bit up his sleeve. "They didn't hang around, they went a nice good gallop. I saw Seamie (Heffernan) couldn't go early on and I thought we are going a nice one here. He just came good then two (furlongs) down. "He is a fair horse he had a good run at York the last day. Everything went wrong for him there, he missed the break and I was drawn the wrong side and that form has worked out well. "Paul has done very well with this horse and he is good trainer." STEWARDS REPORTS ** The Stewards enquired into an incident 200 yards from the winning post involving Mirza (GB), ridden by F.M. Berry, placed fifth, Monsieur Joe, ridden by J.P. O'Brien, placed fourth and Russian Soul, ridden by S. Foley, placed third, where it appeared both Mirza(GB) and Monsieur Joe ran short of room. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was accidental and took no further action. ** S. Foley, rider of Russian Soul trained by M.Halford, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount ran short of room a furlong out. ** Miss Natalia Lupini, trainer of Abstraction, reported to the Clerk of Scales that her charge scoped badly and was coughing post race.
