Range comes good for Scott Relevant Range ended a frustrating run of placed efforts when getting his head in front in the mile maiden at Dundalk tonight. The Starspangledbanner gelding was making his third start for Gillian Scott and had been runner-up on his two visits here last month. Billy Lee was in the saddle for his sister and tracked front-runner El Campeador before letting his mount hit the front under two furlongs for home. He was asked for maximum effort passing the furlong pole and kept on well in the closing stages to post a half length success over 8/15 shot Rick Dalton. The winner had been placed seven times on nine previous runs and Scott said:- "I'm thrilled. "To be fair to him, he ran two good races up here but I think the last day made a man of him. He was just a bit more honest today. "He gave him a great ride and he stuck his head out. "We can give him a little break while the soft ground is there, but we will eventually go to the turf on decent ground." (Quotes by Michael Graham)
