Review ROSCOMMON 3RD OCT

Charlie Swan's Master Ofthe Chase landed the feature event, the Grade 3 Kilbegnet EBF Novice Chase, at Roscommon today, when running out an easy winner under David Casey.

Recording only his second win over fences, Master Ofthe Chase tracked the leaders before progressing to lead approaching the final fence, staying on well for his easy three and a half length win.

Swan later reported 'David gave him a good confident ride, got the horse jumping quickly and didn't let Kahuna get too far in front of him.'

He added 'the horse may have a break now and will be kept to two miles but we'll try and avoid heavy ground with him.'

Patience is a virtue but when approximately 100 horses, mostly average not bad, are ballotted out of a race, owners can be forgiven for feeling angry in what is a real problem, with the end of the Flat season only weeks away.

This scenario happened in the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap with only 15 horses (from an original entry of 132) getting a run in a race won by Eoin Griffin's Don't Be Bitin.

Returning to the scene of his win at the track last year, Don't Be Bitin's stamina proved his biggest asset, when getting past front running Shaunas Vision inside the final furlong, for a two length win.

Griffin later commented 'he has a nice mark over hurdles but will stick to the Flat for a while, with the Cesarewitch and November Handicaps featuring on his agenda.'

Andrew Oliver recorded his first training success of the season when his Bogside Dancer landed the Fairymount Maiden (division 1) under Declan McDonogh.

Oliver later reported 'Bogside Dancer has had a few setbacks and I was waiting for an ease in the ground to run him. He may go for a handicap at Gowran this weekend.'

David Ryan's One Four Shannon is the latest Con Power graduate to successfully make the grade on his return to chasing, with a win in the Boyle Handicap Chase.

Ryan later reported 'I sent the horse to Con's to get his jumping sorted out and he has done a brilliant job.'

He added 'One Four Shannon may go straight to the Troytown Chase next as he goes well fresh.'

The opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden went to Michael Grassick's newcomer Gemini Gold, under Niall McCullagh.

The daughter of King's Best raced in mid division before making progress to lead inside the final furlong for a two and a half length win.

Afterwards Grassick reported 'Gemini Gold is from a tough family and she wants a cut in the ground. She will either go for the Silken Glider Stakes at The Curragh next or be left off until the Spring.'

Dermot Weld and stand-in stable jockey Pat Shanahan combined to win the Fairymount Maiden (division 2) with All In A Mix while Noel Meade and Paul Carberry landed the novice hurdle with Masrahi.
