Quarry Lil landed a tidy gamble when making most in the opening Kilsheelan Mares Maiden Hurdle at Clonmel.
The Paul O’Flynn-trained mare, winner of a point-to-point at Ballyvodock in February, was as big as 20/1 earlier in the day, and was sent off a 7/1 chance in this nine-runner event over an extended 2m3f.
Eoin O’Brien’s mount kept on well in the straight, and won comfortably by a diminishing three quarters of a length from My Midnight
The runner-up didn’t enjoy the clearest of passages early in the straight and was also inconvenienced by an awkward jump at the last. Caddy Shack was just a neck back in third, while 5/4 favourite The Three Wizards held every chance before weakening to finish fifth.
