Pyrus Gold Wind scores for Colgan & Mahon The 11/8 favourite Pyrus Gold Wind won what was an incident packed Easter Bunny Maiden Hurdle for Robbie Colgan and Stephen Mahon. As they approached the third last 16/1 shot Annas Back led under Brian Hayes from the Davy Russell ridden, Conor O’Dwyer trained Ussius (13/2) in second. However Annas Back crashed out at that flight bringing down Ussius in the process. This left Pyrus Gold Wind in the lead with River Slaney under Kevin Sexton for Liz Doyle a close second. Pyrus Gold Wind was ridden in the home straight and he kept on well from before the last to win by three and quarter lengths. River Slaney plugged on to take second at 14/1 while Harpor was a further five lengths back in third for Sean Aherne and Paddy Mangan at 20/1. Count Brando, who went off the 4/1 second favourite, clipped heels and slipped up on the turn for home when struggling in seventh. Stephen Mahon said afterwards: “He is a fun horse who only cost €500 outside the ring. "He’ll mix it on the flat and over hurdles for the summer. He is one horse who won’t go on heavy ground. "He is not a jadey horse he was just beaten by better horses in the past." After the race Davy Russell was stood down for the rest of the day after being brought down aboard Ussius.
