A change of tactics did the trick as Pulse Of Shanghai returned to form in division one of the Story Of Dundalk Stadium Book Available Online Handicap.

Declan McDonogh made his intentions clear from stalls as he bounced out the four-year-old in front and proceeded to make virtually all in this seven furlongs event.

The 7/1 chance was strongly pressed by Monzoon in the straight but got the better of that rival inside the final furlong to score by half a length.

The well-backed 5/1 favourite Kokura kept on one paced a further length and a quarter back in third.

Winning trainer Kieran Cotter said, “His last few runs were a bit disappointing for the work he can do at home.

“He won his maiden in Down Royal last year when Jim Ryan trained him and he beat a good horse of ours Strong Johnson over five (furlongs).

“We were trying to ride a race on him up to this and today we said we’d just send him forward as he always seemed to be finishing well. He probably should have won here a few weeks ago when he got into trouble in behind.

“There was no excuses today, a good man on board and out in front and go.

“Jim Ryan and Dr Chah are good supporters of ours. They sent us a handful of horses so it’s great they are winning for them now.

“He’ll ply his trade up here for the winter.”

Inflection Point, trained by Cotter for the same connections, also won at Navan on Wednesday.
