"He's a very good apprentice. It made the difference the seven pounds and he knows the filly well — he won on her in Navan," said Harry Rogers after Sean Davis won the Guinness Draught Handicap at Galway on Remarkable Lady (16/1).

The week couldn't be going much better for Davis after his win last evening on Michael O'Callaghan's Perfect Soldier.

A Ballinrobe winner ten days earlier, here the successful Zoffany filly followed up by beating Cairdiuil and Tribal Path by a length and a half and a length and a quarter.

"It's great she done it the way she did," elaborated Rogers, on a runner that he trains for the Nap Racing Syndicate.

"She always promised plenty, even as a two-year-old. It's probably just took time for her to strengthen up.

"It's nice ground — not soft — so I wasn't worried on that score.

"They went a gallop and it suited her. She's in a fillies handicap at Cork and she's in a mile and two at Roscommon coming up."

The Stewards requested a report from I.Madden, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Cairdiuil, placed second, as compared with its recent form.

I. Madden reported that his charge failed to stay the trip at Roscommon 8th May, met with interference on the bend past the stands at Roscommon 12th June and most recently failed to handle the quick underfoot conditions at Killarney 17th July.

He also reported that this eleven year old gelding had run his best races here at Galway, thrives on the uphill finish and was best suited running over a mile.

Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.

The Stewards interviewed R.P. Cleary, rider of Cairdiuil, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race.

Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.

Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that R.P. Cleary was in breach of R10(3)(f) by using his whip with excessive frequency and therefore cautioned him having taken his good previous record into consideration. .
