July Cup winner Slade Power's family dominated Dundalk's Gift Vouchers Handicap (div I) today, as his sibling Selective Power denied son Linus Larrabee a hat-trick of wins, in a 1-2 for trainer Eddie Lynam.
Ridden by Chris Hayes, three-year-old maiden Selective Power was produced to lead inside the final furlong and beat treble-chasing stablemate Linus Larrabee by a neck.
Tamayuz-sired Selective Power is the eight foal from Girl Power, whose six winners todate include Lynam's 2014 July Cup winner Slade Power. Linus Larrabee, on the other hand, is a son of Slade Power, retired to stud in 2015, and who currently stands at Haras des Fontaines in France.
Lynam trains Selective Power for Slade Power's owner Sabina Power and revealed “he walks the box at the races, he's alright at home but at the races he walks the box and gets himself in a tizz.
“Unlike the trainer, he doesn't have the comfort of a box of cigarettes!”
“It is good to win with him, the family has been good to me, obviously Slade Power was a superstar and the owners have been good to me, so it is nice to get a win with him.”
He added "Linus Larrabee does what he can do, he got left six or eight lengths and then he tanked. She (jockey Sorcha Woods) has done alright out of him but it was nearly a dream for her to get three in a row."
