Power Roche at the double on Brandt Tiernan Power Roche notched a quick double at Leopardstown this afternoon when coming from off the pace on Brandt to land the Dublin National Handicap Chase. Cian Collins’ charge settled out the back early in the three-and-a-half mile marathon and took closer order over the second last. The Affinisea gelding was driven along to challenge over the final fence and got the better of Union Station on the run-in to record a two-and-three-quarter length victory. It was a second success for the seven-year-old since joining Collins and he said:- “He’s been lucky and unlucky. He won on the first run for us, but I think he should have two more won since as he fell one day and probably got to the front too soon the last day and got lonely but it’s great to get that today. “There was plenty of pace on and we were confident that he would stay. Every time that Tiernan wanted him he picked up for him. “The Ulster National is in a month’s time at Downpatrick and if he got into it, that would suit perfect. “There is also a long-distance handicap at Punchestown. “It was an unbelievable ride by Tiernan and he’s great value for the 5lb.” Tiernan Power Roche added:- “It's two good pots to win. It was a mixed day starting off but it's ending on a high. Cian is a brilliant trainer and aims his horses well for nice races. “I've been lucky with my agent Garry (Cribbin) who got me in there and I got a few spins for him and hopefully I can get a couple more. Cian told me to take my time, and he wouldn't mind if I was in the last two. “He said he'll race lazy but when you give him a slap down the shoulder and ask him for a jump to take you into it, he'll get you into it easy and that's exactly what he done. He stayed really well. It's nice when you get instructions, and they go as well as that.” (Quotes by Alan Magee)
