The Gavin Cromwell-trained Pour Pavore just edged the verdict close home after a good duel with Dedanann down the straight in the Clonmel Oil Service Station Handicap Hurdle.
Dedanann jumped out to make the running in the contest, run over just shy of two-and-a-half miles, and soon had a healthy advantage.
Pour Pavore tracked him throughout and travelled well to press the leader turning for home.
Conor Maxwell asked his mount for an effort going to the second last where he just pecked slightly on landing.
There was nothing between the pair over the last and Pour Pavore just found a bit extra in the dying strides to grab a head victory.
The 11/4 winner was following up on his success at Galway last month and winning his third race from four outings.
Maxwell said afterwards:- "It is very hard work out there and it is after opening up.
“I got into a lovely rhythm and I thought over the first couple (of hurdles) we let Sean (O'Keeffe, on Dedanann) off. John Ryan's horses are hard-fit so I thought he'd stay going well, so I followed him on.
"It is hard to make up ground on that ground but it worked out well and the light weight helped him."
