The Dermot Weld trained Postulation (7/1) came from last to first as he got up close home to deny the favourite Parish Hall in the Listed TRI Equestrian Silver Stakes.
The three-year-old gelded son of Varian's Holiday was settled in rear by Pat Smullen before taking closer order from two furlongs out.
He was ridden over a furlong from home and got up in the final strides to beat Parish Hall by a neck.
The runner-up was sent off the 9/10 favourite (was 7/4 last night) and he boldly attempted to bite the winner when passed.
The front duo went four and three parts of a length clear of English raider Manndawi who was third under Wayne Lordan for Ed Dunlop at 7/1.
Dermot Weld said afterwards: "They were the tactics and it worked out well. It was a lovely ride by Pat, and his biggest worry was when the other horse moved towards him near the line!
"He's been a model of consistency and has never been out of the first three. That's his ideal trip and, with that win under his belt, we might travel with him now."
The winner was the only three-year-old in the race and he was in getting weight from all his rivals, carrying over a stone less than the runner-up.
