The Maurice Phelan trained Portrait King is among eleven horses set to do battle in the feature race at Newcastle this afternoon, the Betfred Eider Handicap Chase.

The grey son of Portrait Gallery recorded his first racecourse win at Punchestown on his last start in the Grade C National Trial Handicap Chase which was run over 3m 4f.

Today's contest is over a further four furlongs which shouldn't be a problem to the 7yo who is in fact the youngest horse in the race.

Denis O'Regan will take the ride on the gelding who has been installed the 7/2 favourite with Paddy Powers for the race which is due off at 3:25.
