Owned and bred by John Keaney, Poetic Sound made it two wins from three starts in the feature at Bellewstown this afternoon, the Kilsaran Race.

An encouraging fourth on debut at Killarney in July, the Ger Lyons-trained gelding since made the breakthrough on heavy ground at Roscommon.

Racing mainly in third under Colin Keane, the 2/1 chance was pushed along with over three furlongs to go, soon coming with his effort on the outer.

Taking over from the front-running Chantilly (11/8f) from the furlong pole, he readily increased his advantage and was four lengths clear at the line.

The Kevin Coleman-trained Akecheta (9/1) filled the runner-up spot, while the aforementioned Chantilly was another length and three quarters back in third.

"He is still a horse that Colin says doesn't know he is a horse yet. Every race he is improving." Lyons reflected.

"Somebody said to me today that they are only running for place money behind me and I said 'if you are, I'm only 75 per cent cooked'.

"He's a gorgeous horse and even his last run in Roscommon he was lost halfway through and today he travelled better through the race so I think he is learning on the job.

"Hopefully, he will have one more run before we put him away which will only benefit him for next year.

"He was clueless in Killarney, not as clueless in Roscommon and better today, so he's a bright individual.

"We would look forward to him, nice family and first horse I've had for John.

"I'd say even 1m6f is his minimum.

"Maybe a November Handicap or something like that. I don't know that he has enough street smarts to do that just yet.

"We'll see what the man that knows all (handicapper) does to him!"
