Creggs Pipes shed her maiden tag on her seventh career start as she made all to win the REA Grimes Fillies Maiden under Declan McDonogh for Andy Slattery.
Second to Fort Del Oro on her last start at the Curragh the daughter of Rip Van Winkle was sent off an 11/2 chance (from 13/2 on-course) in the colours of the Delphi Six Syndicate.
Ridden and pressed entering the straight she found plenty under pressure and kept up the gallop inside the final furlong, going on to score by three parts of a length. Ibergman (4/1) was second under Pat Smullen for Sheila Lavery while the well-backed Catalyst (9/4 to 15/8 and favourite on-course) was a further half a length back in third under Billy Lee for Paddy Twomey. Timbuktu was sent off the 2/1 second favourite but she ran no sort of race and finished a well-beaten last under Seamie Heffernan for Aidan O'Brien.
Andy Slattery said afterwards: "I gave her a chance as it was an open enough race. I was going to go for the Dubai Duty Free Summer (Fillies) Handicap at the Curragh on Saturday but she was four pounds out of the handicap. But if she bounces out in the morning, and we get some rain, she could still run.
"She was bred by John Hayes from Tipperary town, and it's his first horse in training."
STEWARDS REPORT
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Timbuktu, trained by A.P.O'Brien, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
