Pearl Palinka off the mark for Weld & Orr Having finished sixth at Navan last weekend, Pearl Palinka (9/2) made a quick reappearance to take the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden in good style. The full-sister to Listed winner Servalan, owned and bred by Charlie and Noeleen McCreevy, tracked the leaders towards the outer before making headway to challenge after coming around the elbow. She got on top in the final hundred yards and went away to score by a length and a half from the 11/8 favourite Brostaigh. The latter just denied market rival Obtain of second spot by a short head. Third behind a subsequent Listed winner on debut at Tipperary, the Dermot Weld-trained winner was getting off the mark at the third attempt. Winning rider Oisin Orr said: "She just did too much the last day. Five furlongs is suiting her and hopefully she can go forward from that. "I think so (ready for a higher grade) - she has always shown plenty at home. The only time she has disappointed was last time when she stumbled leaving the stalls and just ran a bit too free in my hands and didn't get home. She has put that behind her. "I think that sharp five suits her well as she has loads of speed. She quickened up well and was only doing enough in front as well." Quotes from Michael Graham
