Leading French jockey Olivier Peslier made a successful raid on Goodwood on Friday.
He was seen at his best with an 83-1 double on Atlantis Prince and Pantar.
Atlantis Prince, a 6-1 shot, followed up his Newmarket victory with a gutsy victory in the Bellway Homes Stardom Stakes, the chestnut coming through a narrow gap to deny Chaguaramas by a neck.
Vicious Knight, the 10-11 favourite, looked like a winner a furlong and a half out in the mile contest, but when asked a serious question could not answer the call.
Winning trainer Sean Woods, said: 'He is in next year`s Guineas but I`m not thinking that far ahead yet.
'The race did not go his way but he still won. Which was pleasing.'
Peslier wrapped up his brace in the Darnley Stakes on 11-1 chance Pantar, and the Gallic pilot came in for some high praise from winning trainer Ian Balding`s wife Emma, who said: 'He rode a perfect race and did everything right.'
Pantar, running his 12th race of the season, came with a strong run up the middle of the track to deny Welsh Wind by half a length.
Appellation, one of Richard Hannon`s main hopes at the start of the season, finally came good in the opening EBF Harvest Maiden Stakes.
The colt was one of five in a line at the two-furlong marker, but Lee Newman drove his mount out to take the advantage and win by two lengths from Ajwaa.
Silvester Kirk, Hannon`s assistant, said: 'We really liked him at the start of the year, but unfortunately he suffered a bit from sore shins. He is a big chap, who is strengthening up all the time, and this six furlongs was just up his street.
'Back in July he wasn`t all that far away at Windsor from Bad As I Wanna Be, who went on to win the Group One Prix Morny at Deauville, so the form is there.'
Blue Mountain did not have much room a quarter of a mile out in the Southernprint Conditions Stakes, but jockey Richard Mullen soon found an opening, Fulke Johnson Houghton`s chestnut leading inside the final furlong to beat Welcome Friend by three-quarters of a length.
Mullen, riding his 43rd winner of the year, said: 'The horse stepped up to that seven furlongs really well.'
