Michael Blanshard is to pitch Patsy`s Double in at the deep end by running his unbeaten colt in thehorsesmouth.co.uk Champagne Stakes at Doncaster on Friday.
Patsy`s Double looked a useful two-year-old when completing a hat-trick at Newbury in July when he gave 5lb and a length-and-a-quarter beating to Blueberry Forest over the straight seven furlongs.
That followed a 20-1 debut success over six at the Berkshire track and a smooth victory over the same trip at Salisbury.
But this Group Two races marks a huge step up in class for Patsy`s Double faces stiff opposition from established juvenile stars such as Coventry Stakes winner Cd Europe, TNT July Stakes victor Noverre and impressive York scorer Ghayth from Sir Michael Stoute`s stable.
'There`s not been a lot for him since Newbury and anyway we`ve waiting for the better ground which hopefully he`ll get at Doncaster. He wants good ground and he wouldn`t want it too soft,' said Blanshard.
'We are throwing him in at the deep end but you have to take a chance at some stage. I just hope he`s up to it, he`s been working well.'
Fergus Sweeney, who partnered the son of Emerati on his latest start, will be in the saddle at Doncaster.
The Upper Lambourn trainer hopes that Patsy`s Double performs better in the Champagne than his previous runner in the race, Locombe Hill, who was sixth to Auction House two years ago.
'He has always looked a useful horse at home but he still has something to prove. He was a late foal so hopefully he will show that he has improved since his last run,' he added.
