Magen’s Moon showed plenty of promise in three juvenile outings last year, and overcame a five months break to justify favouritism in the Elusive Pimpernel Fillies Maiden at Dundalk.

The 11/10 market leader travelled well to lead early in the straight, and was driven out by Declan McDonogh inside the final furlong to score by a length. Zinat made a promising debut in second, with Goodnight Irina a half-length further back in third.

Winning trainer John Oxx said, “She’d good consistent form and it’s good to see that she’s maintained it, and nice to get the bracket for her.

“There are a couple of options here but I don’t know if it’s the track for her. Declan thinks she might be better on the turf.

“She travels well and is a good worker at home. She’s a nice well-bred athletic filly, and she might handle a little ease in the ground.

“It was her first time to wear a hood. She goes in last into the stalls, and the hood certainly helps her in the preliminaries.”

The daughter of Henrythenavigator is a half-sister to Red Stars, who won the Listed Lenebane Stakes for the same connections at Roscommon last year.
