Oslot wins Galway Plate

Oslot became just the third British trained winner of the Galway Plate when winning for Paul Nicholls, running out the heavily backed 11/4 favourite for the William Hill sponsored chase.

Ridden by Ruby Walsh, Oslot raced prominently before moving through to lead before two out, eventually keeping up the gallop for a four lengths win over Oodachee with dual winner of the race & 12yo Ansar storming up the hill for an admirable third.

Afterwards Nicholls reported "I've had this race in mind for some time and it all worked out well as Oslot jumped and travelled well throughout."

He added "this is Oslot's Gold Cup and he is entitled to a break now. We were unlucky with Hoo La Baloo in the race last year but this is a massive prize to win!"

Ruby Walsh, who was riding his second Galway Plate winner, later added "my biggest worry was getting to the front too soon after the third last fence but he pinged the second last fence and jumped out of my hands at the final fence!"

Runner-up Oodachee, under David Casey and representing trainer Charlie Swan, ran well and briefly threatened to haul back the winner early on the run-in but was unable to quicken inside the final furlong.

Dermot Weld 's Ansar, contesting his sixth Galway plate, ran a cracker to take third. The 12yo gelding has now won this race twice, while also finishing second, third, fourth and fifth in the Plate.
