Orandi caused a 33/1 shock when defying topweight in the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Apprentice Handicap at the Curragh.
The six-year-old gelding won five times in France before joining Tony Martin and was having his fifth outing here for current connections.
There were plenty still in with a chance over a furlong out, but it was Orandi that proved strongest on the far side in the final 100 yards.
Jack Kearney ’s mount kept on well to beat Shawaamekh by three quarters of a length with Arch Enemy a length and a quarter further back in third and Alessia Fernanda completing the places in fourth.
Kearney said, “Tony rang me earlier today and said he’d have a chance if he’s on song and in fairness he’s done it well.
“He did everything sweetly, travelled into the race nicely and won well.
“He likes to get his toe in and I knew the ground would be no issue today.”
